"I am woman, watch me frag!"
Welcome to the ramblings, reviews and other instabilities of a girl gamer trying her hand at writing. I've written before, but this is an altogether different sort of beast. Largely unedited, this blog will be a place for me to rant about Game Industry politics and to review the newest hotness that catches my eye. This may not always be the new hotness that most people enjoy, my tastes in gaming can be a bit...eclectic. I enjoy everything from Harvest Moon (A popular farming/life sim) to JRPGs to Halo. What I review may not be something you care about, but hey, this is my blog. Cope.
Let's start with a little more about me, shall we?
I'm 27, female, and a born and raised gamer. My parents were both gamers in their own right, and I remember instead of bedtime stories at night it was watching mom play EQ or Heroes of Might and Magic. Mother also had friends over once a week for White Wolf Vampire gaming, during which I would run around and climb into her friends laps. Then, with giant, blue, puppy dog eyes I would grasp their dice bag, or the few dice near me, and run merrily off to my bedroom to hide them. I was also known as "the group spy" because I would follow the DM and whomever he had chosen to speak with into the other room, and then rush back to tell the group everything that had just happened. I did this so often they made a character for me to explain all the OOC knowledge floating about. I was 7. I held a controller before I could really walk, thought I wasn't any good. Some of the best memories were of young me, fighting along in Sonic, and having to ask my mother to help me with the bosses. She would fight them and explain the fights to me, and help me learn them myself. That being said, here's my "list"...
Favorite console games::
1. Legend of Zelda :: Link to the Past
2. LoZ :: Ocarina of Time
3. Portal
4. Fallout 3
5. Portal 2
6. Bioshock
7. Elder Scrolls IV :: Oblivion (To be perfectly fair, I play this one more on the PC even though I largely consider it to be a console game. I just find the interactions much easier with keyboard and mouse than the arguably clunky xbox controller)
8. Fable
9. Silent Hill
10. Harvest Moon 64
Favorite MMO's::
1. World of Warcraft
2. City of Heroes
3. SWG - Pre-combat upgrade days, which yes, means pre-WoW
4. SW : ToR (I know it's not out yet, but the beta is so amazing, I can't wait for it to release. It would take the #2 spot, but I can't put it there in good conscience since it hasn't been released.)
Favorite PC games::
1. The Sims 3
2. Kings Quest (Up till 6)
3. Elder Scrolls III :: Morrowind
4. Batman : Arkham Asylum
5. Myst
Favorite Table-top/Card games::
1. Munchkin
2. Settlers of Catan
3. Heroscape
4. Fluxx
That should give you a little insight into who I am as a gamer. I play the silly and the serious and I've finally decided not to hide it. I'm a girl gamer and for a long time that meant hiding the "girly" or "childish" games if I wanted to be taken seriously. My reviews should be able to speak for themselves.
